Kandace Springs The Bellevue Jazz & Blues Festival welcomes singer, pianist and Blue Note recording artist Kandace Springs. Springs sophomore Blue Note album The Women Who Raised Me, produced by Larry Klein (Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Holly Cole), is her loving tribute to the great female singers who've inspired Kandace at every step of her musical journey. The repertoire ranges from standards made famous by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Carmen McRae through the music of Sixties legends like Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield, and up to such modern icons as Sade and Lauryn Hill. "I literally learned to do what I do by singing along with them," says Kandace Springs. "Ever since, I've wanted to pay that forward by reminding people of how great these ladies are. We all owe them so much." The Women Who Raised Me features guest appearances by David Sanborn (I Put A Spell On You) and Christian McBride (Devil May Care) along with contributions from saxophonist Chris Potter and trumpeter Avishai Cohen.
